Biography

Dr. Chimango Perez Nyasulu is a lecturer in the Department of Information and Communication Technology at Mzuzu University. He recently earned his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Gaston Berger of Saint Louis, Senegal. Funded by the Regional Scholarship and Innovation Fund (Rsif), his PhD research topic was “Towards Resilient Agriculture to Hostile Climate Change Through Machine Learning-based Weather Prediction and Crop Disease Classification and Quantification of Severity.”
The study looked at how well machine learning regressors predicted Senegal’s daily rainfall, relative humidity, maximum temperature, and minimum temperature in order to increase farmers’ resilience and productivity. It also examined the effectiveness of using Machine Learning classifiers to classify and quantify the severity of tomato leaf fungal diseases based on GLCM texture features and the use of a transfer learning approach.’
Dr. Nyasulu’s research interests focus on highlighting the transformative power of such technologies in tackling unique challenges such as improving agricultural production, ensuring food security, promoting economic development, and combating climate change. Ultimately, it emphasizes the significance of continued investment, collaboration, and innovation to unleash the full potential of these advancements in different domains, including agriculture.
