Dunduzu Campus, Mzuzu View mapBachelor of Science (Hospitality Management) is a blended mode (face-to-face and open distance and e-learning) taught undergraduate programme and runs for four (4) academic years; 8 semesters. The programme offers students a rich learning experience that blends theoretical, practical and industrial skill whilst guaranteeing an appreciable depth of vocational and hands-on management skills. The programme is aimed at delivering potential leaders to the hospitality industry by transforming students to have a holistic view of hospitality as a form of business, an industry and also a social and environmental practice, with broad cultural, political, economic and environmental connectedness and implications.
The programme’s structure and delivery methods equip students with analytical and problem solving skills in the hospitality field. The programme provides students with diverse skills and knowledge to pursue careers in the hospitality operations and management with career opportunities waiting in hotels, restaurants, foodservice and processing companies, cruise ship industry, airline industry, and other customer service related areas of the profession. Additionally, graduates of this programme can also pursue careers as researchers, consultants and entrepreneurs in the hospitality industry.
As a requirement towards partial fulfilment for the award of the degree, students undergo an assessed industrial attachment The industrial attachment exposes the students to the exposes the students to real work environment. It is aimed at providing students with the opportunity to relate their academic learning in the study programme to a relevant practical work environment.
Entry requirements
This programme admits generic students with a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent obtained in not more than two sittings with an aggregate of not more than 30 points in at best six (6) subjects with at least a credit in English and Mathematics/Additional Mathematics.
