About the Department
The Department of Forestry and Environmental Management at Mzuzu University has a rich heritage of fostering environmental stewardship. Established with the vision to be a leading institution in forestry and allied sectors, our mission centers on advancing excellence in the development and application of technical and scientific knowledge in forestry and the environment. Situated at House No. 1, TCRET & Ring Road Isle, Old Graves Square, Mzuzu University, Malawi, our department is led by Head Francis Kamangadazi. Our dedicated team of educators and researchers, including Dr. Lusayo Mwabumba, Dr. Victor Kasulo, Jarret Mhango, Dr. Dalo Njera, Elisha Ngulube, Kennedy Masamba, ensures that students receive top-notch instruction and engage in impactful research.
Our undergraduate program offers a BSc in Forestry, where students delve into forest biology, silviculture, forest management, biodiversity conservation, and more, preparing them for careers in forestry, environmental sectors, and beyond. Our postgraduate programs, including an MSc and PhD in Forestry and Environmental Management, cater to those seeking specialized knowledge and skills in sustainable resource management.
Research is at the heart of our department’s endeavors, with a focus on forest science, social forestry, forest engineering, and climate change-related challenges.
